Tour Plan
1.Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from your hotel in Moshi after breakfast. A scenic drive of approximately three hours takes you to Lemosho Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, where registration and park formalities are completed. After meeting your mountain crew, begin your trek through the lush montane rainforest. The trail is shaded beneath towering trees draped with moss and home to a variety of birdlife and playful black-and-white colobus monkeys. The gentle ascent makes for a comfortable first day on the mountain. Upon arrival at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner while your guide provides a briefing about the days ahead before settling in for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp
After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind as the vegetation gradually changes into heather and moorland. The trail climbs steadily, offering increasingly impressive views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. The landscape opens dramatically as you reach Shira 1 Camp, located on the western edge of the plateau. If weather permits, an optional acclimatization walk is recommended before dinner.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Today's trek is relatively short, allowing ample time for acclimatization. Cross the expansive Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world, surrounded by spectacular volcanic scenery. As you make your way toward Shira 2 Camp, enjoy uninterrupted views of Kibo Peak, Mount Meru in the distance, and the mountain's northern slopes. After lunch, take a gentle acclimatization hike before returning to camp for dinner.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Moir Hut
Continue your ascent across rocky alpine terrain toward the secluded Moir Valley. The route becomes quieter as most climbers follow the southern trails, leaving you surrounded by peaceful mountain wilderness. After arriving at Moir Hut, there is time for an optional acclimatization hike to nearby ridges before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Moir Hut – Buffalo (Pofu) Camp
Today's trek follows the remote Northern Circuit, traversing Kilimanjaro's rarely visited northern slopes. The trail gently undulates across alpine desert landscapes with magnificent views stretching toward Kenya. The peaceful surroundings and minimal foot traffic make this one of the most rewarding sections of the entire climb. Arrive at Buffalo (Pofu) Camp in the afternoon for rest and overnight.
Day 6: Buffalo Camp – Third Cave Camp
Continue eastward across the mountain's northern side through open alpine desert terrain. Today's route is relatively gentle, helping your body adapt to the altitude while conserving energy for the summit attempt. Arrive at Third Cave Camp, where you can relax, hydrate, and enjoy another evening beneath Kilimanjaro's spectacular night skies.
Day 7: Third Cave Camp – School Hut
Today's hike is shorter but involves a steady climb toward School Hut, your final camp before the summit attempt. The surrounding landscape becomes increasingly rugged as vegetation disappears, replaced by volcanic rock and alpine desert. Arrive early in the afternoon to allow sufficient time for rest. After an early dinner, your guide conducts a detailed summit briefing and checks all equipment. A few hours of sleep are essential before beginning the midnight ascent.
Day 8: School Hut – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp
Around midnight, begin your final ascent under a sky filled with stars. Climb slowly toward Gilman's Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the Roof of Africa. Witness an unforgettable sunrise over East Africa as you celebrate reaching the highest point on the continent. After photographs and a short rest, begin your descent via Stella Point to Barafu before continuing through alpine desert and moorland to Millennium Camp. The significant descent helps your body recover after the demanding summit climb.
Day 9: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi / Arusha
Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. The trail winds beneath towering trees, offering a final opportunity to spot colorful birds and playful monkeys. At the gate, receive your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate before meeting your driver for the transfer back to Moshi or Arusha, where your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure comes to an end.
